Sport England has revealed remarkable results from its innovative crowdfunding partnership with Crowdfunder, raising nearly £19 million for community sports organisations over four years. From over 1,000 successful community campaigns, the programme delivered an impressive 313% amplification effect, with every £1 invested by Sport England generating an additional £2.13 from community supporters.
Beyond the financial impact, 87% of participating organisations reported improved community relationships, highlighting the transformative power of collective action and the holistic effects of community engagement.
The success of this partnership has led Sport England to embed crowdfunding into its Movement Fund, ensuring sustained access to this community-driven funding stream. Tim Hollingsworth, Chief Executive of Sport England, emphasised the broader significance: “Crowdfunding fosters a sense of ownership and engagement. When individuals contribute to a cause they care about, it creates a collective movement that goes beyond mere funding – it builds connections, strengthens community ties, and promotes a culture of participation.”
The programme continues to offer support through webinars, workshops, and mentorship programmes for community sports organisations looking to harness the power of local fundraising.
We’re excited to see how Crowdfunder can continue to accelerate community action, strengthen local connections, and unlock the full potential of grassroots initiatives across the UK.
